CARBON FIBRE STRENGTHENING (CFRP)

INTEN CONSTRUCTIONS FOR MIRVAC HOLDINGS

New tennants to Sydney’s Broadway shopping centre - Aldi / 1st Choice Liquor, required the existing retail floor space capacity raised from the pre existing 5kPa to a minimum 10kPa to satisfy the loading requirements for back of house pallet storage and new loading bay.

CARBON FIBRE STRENGTHENING (CFRP)

Aldi Broadway

SlabTec Pty Ltd was awarded the subcontract for the design and construct of a Carbon fibre and composite floor strengthening system that could meet these requirements and also rationalise the existing design to maximise efficiencies in materials costs, labour and practical buildability constraints that were being experienced on site. Due to these works being carried out in a fully functioning shopping centre adjacent to a cinema complex limitations on working hours, vibration and noise were a key factor in developing a program that suited the asset owner so as to minimise any disruption to day to day trading.

SlabTec’s approach was to utilise the Sika CarboDur system on both top and bottom of slab with all the top mounted CFRP needing to be recessed into the slab and covered in an extremely durable and hard wearing epoxy coating that could withstand the sustained hard wheel use of pallet jacks and forklifts. We also designed and constructed a 150mm fully bonded concrete slab to raise an area of the trading floor to match the existing areas. For this, a conventional reinforced slab was constructed and pinned into the existing slab.
