The area is inclusive of the notorious Hungry Mile, the name harbourside workers gave to the docklands area of Darling Harbour East, where workers would walk from wharf to wharf in search of a job, often failing to find one. In recent years the Government of New South Wales determined that the precinct would be redeveloped from an industrial zone into a more commercial office space and recreational area. The redevelopment involves parkland with several new apartment buildings, as well as a hotel and casino. In 2014 SlabTec Pty Ltd was awarded the subcontract for the grouting of PT stressbars to massive 55t headstock units that make up part of the roof segments of the new cultural space that is discreetly hidden beneath the new parkland created to the north of the site effectively recreating the original landscape of the traditional owners of the land. Our grouting solution employed the grouting technology of the Sika Grout 300 PT system which proved to be a perfect solution to the high early strength requirements and performance required by the Engineer on this project.
